Gov Wike doubts President Buhari will sign Electoral Act

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has expressed doubts on whether President Muhammadu Buhari would sign the Electoral Act, as amended by the National Assembly.

Speaking on an African Independent Television programme on Thursday, Wike said it was weird for the president to seek advice from the Independent National Electoral Commission on the Electoral Act as it had been amended by the National Assembly.

Governor Wike also use the opportunity to assure that a credible candidate would be presented by the Peoples Democratic Party and the person would win the 2023 Presidential election.

“Let nobody come and tell you that in arriving at a presidential candidate that it will be easy,” Wike said as quoted by the governor’s Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, in a statement he signed. “No way, it can never be. You know, there are two types of turbulence.

“PDP has redeemed its position towards what Nigerians are expecting, because Nigerians are tired of what is going on in the country. So, they need an alternative, and the only alternative as it is today is the Peoples’ Democratic Party.”

The governor promised that despite the party having yet to choose a candidate and whether such a candidate would be from the Southern or Northern part of the country, “the candidate will be one who could confront the evil tactics of All Progressives Congress”.

“I must see that you are prepared for it, and to confront this evil called APC,” Mr Wike said.
