Governor Babagana Zulum visited injured soldiers on Monday night following a battle with Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists.
At Rann, a border town between Nigeria and Cameroon, in Kala Balge, Local Government Area of Borno State, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) operatives engaged terrorists from Boko Haram (BH) and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).
In addition to killing 26 terrorists, the troops secured 18 AK-47 rifles and one M-21 rifle along with a large quantity of ammunition during the attack. As a result, the insurgents abandoned their mission and fled in disarray.
Three officers and five soldiers were wounded in the attack and are already brought to the hospital, while two officers and five soldiers died as a result of the operation.
During the evening visit at the Army Hospital in Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, Zulum interacted with and consoled all soldiers affected by the incident. Brig Gen. Abdulwahab Eyitayo, General Officer Commanding 7 Division of the Army, welcomed him.
According to a statement, the governor ordered the release of N5 million, which was promptly distributed to all soldiers on admittance, even those unrelated to the Kala-Balge conflict.
In the company of a member of the state assembly, representing Kala Balge, as well as the commissioners for Justice, Local Government, and Emirate Affairs, the governor praised the soldiers for their patriotism and gallantry.
