Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri has approved the disbursement of N1 billion to cover examination fees for the upcoming 2022-2023 West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO), and other related fees.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the disclosure was made by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Wilbina Jackson, during the launch of the distribution of educational materials to 56 primary schools in the state’s 21 local government areas (LGAs) in Yola.
The commissioner noted that over the last four years, the state government has made commendable progress in education, with a significant increase in primary school enrolment.
Reports has it that officials from the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), Adamawa State Government, education secretaries of select LGAs, and headmasters of primary schools were present at the event in Yola.
In his address, NEDC Managing Director Muhammad Alkali, represented by the Adamawa State Coordinator Mike Tarfa, said the distribution of the educational materials was part of the agency’s efforts to support education in the region.
Hussaini Wesley, the Head Teacher at Song Primary School, expressed gratitude on behalf of the benefitting schools to the NEDC for their intervention.
The commissioner also informed that in addition to the distribution of educational materials, each of the 21 LGAs are to receive newly constructed classroom blocks, furniture, laboratory equipment, and training for teachers to improve the quality of education in the state.
