Group announces date for protest in Rivers, asks police for protection

In furtherance to its condemnation of “numerous anti-people policies” by the administration of President Bola Tinubu, the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement has announced its plan to hold a peaceful protest in Rivers State on Monday, April 7.

The leaders of the movement – State Coordinator, Amaniye King Amaniye, the General Secretary, Damiete Erekosima and the Publicity Secretary, Andy Akpotive – made the announcement in a notice sent to the Nigeria Police.

In the notice, the organisers said the protest is aimed at registering the group rejection of the numerous government policies which are anti-people.

The group leaders also highlighted some of the key issues necessitating the protest including, the repeal of the Cybersecurity Act, worsening economic hardship and the rising insecurity in the state.

Requesting for police support and protection during the protest, TIB said protesting as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution as amended is the right of the people.

TIB said in the notice, “We are committed to ensuring that this protest remains peaceful, orderly, and in compliance with the laws of Nigeria.

“We also seek the cooperation of the police to provide security, just as was done during our previous protests against bad governance,” it noted.

The group further called on it members and Nigerians alike to come out en-masse and join in the protest to demand for a better life for the people.
