A group of party loyalists under the banner of the Brave New Vision Support Group has thrown its weight behind Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, urging members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West to back his emergence as the party’s presidential candidate in 2027.
The convener of the group, Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a known PDP stalwart, made the passionate appeal on Saturday in Lagos while speaking with journalists.
Pearse said the party must begin early preparations to present its strongest candidate, stressing that Makinde, given his leadership record and national appeal, fits the bill perfectly.
“This is not just about politics; it’s about the future of this country,” Pearse said. “Governor Makinde has shown, through his leadership in Oyo State, that he can deliver. He understands governance and connects with the people. That’s the kind of leader Nigeria needs right now.”
He directed his appeal particularly to the newly inaugurated South-West PDP zonal leadership, led by Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe, urging them to take the lead in galvanizing support across the region.
“We need to strengthen our party structures across the South-West and unite our ranks. The task ahead of the new zonal exco is clear: bring everyone together and begin the work of mobilising for victory,” he said.
Pearse stressed that the goal of any political party is to win elections and use that mandate to improve people’s lives. According to him, supporting Makinde’s ambition is a step in the right direction if the PDP is serious about returning to power at the federal level.
He added, “Makinde is not just a strong candidate; he’s our best chance. He has integrity, vision, and a record of performance. We must begin now, not tomorrow, to build momentum around him.”
