Guinness World Records Gives Reason Why It Failed to Award 100 Hours to Hilda Baci

Nigerian Chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, known as Hilda Baci, has officially secured her place in the Guinness World Records as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the renowned organisation expressed their excitement in a statement released Tuesday morning, stating that they meticulously examined all the footage before making the announcement.

Hilda Baci, from Akwa Ibom State, achieved the feat by cooking for a remarkable 93 hours and 11 minutes.

Last month, the 27-year-old chef embarked on a non-stop cooking marathon that lasted for 100 hours, surpassing the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes set by India’s Lata Tondon.

However, according to Guinness World Records, minutes were deducted from Hilda’s final total due to an error she made during one of her rest breaks early in the attempt.

According to the organisation, participants in marathon records are entitled to a five-minute break for every hour completed, allowing for necessary rest periods due to the prolonged nature of these challenges. In Hilda’s case, there was a miscalculation in her rest breaks, leading to the disqualification of her claimed 100-hour record.

It said,” However, anyone attempting a marathon record receives a five minutes break for every hour that they complete. This is to allow suitable rest breaks for the participants due to the prolonged nature of these records.

”In this case, there was a miss calculation when it came to Hilda’s rest breaks, meaning we are unable to award the 100 hours claimed.”

Nonetheless, the Guinness representative, in a video message, announced Hilda Baci as the new holder of the Guinness World Records title for the longest cooking marathon, with an impressive time of 93 hours and 11 minutes.

The organisation congratulated her on the achievement, stating, “Congratulations, you are officially amazing.”
