A former Senator, Shehu Sani, has posited that the Nigerian military bombarding bandits in their enclaves “remains the only option to restore order”. This is against the position of controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, who feels bandits should be pampered.
Sani maintained that since negotiations with bandits ended in futility, offensives against them is right. He however gave a condition, that “the operations must surgically ensure that innocent citizens are protected”.
“The military onslaught against Bandits in Zamfara state remains the only option to restore order, after failed attempts at negotiations,” Sani wrote on her verified Twitter handle on Monday.
“The operations must surgically ensure that innocent citizens are protected;from rights violations and from desperate reprisals by the terrorists.”
Per the Defence Headqaurters, the Nigerian military has continued to sustain its onslaught against bandits, Boko Haram/Islamic States of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist elements in the North.
POLITICS NIGERIA understands that the military had in recent times neutralised several terrorists in the northern axis.
The security forces have executed airstrikes killing several bandits.
