Gunmen abduct 18-year-old boy in Abuja, demand N30 million ransom

Suspected kidnappers have abducted an 18-year-old boy from a house near Jibrilla Hotel on Kurape Road in Karshi, a settlement in Nasarawa State near Abuja.

The attack, carried out by four armed men, took place late in the night, with the kidnappers swiftly taking the boy to a waiting getaway motorcycle stationed further down Kurape Road.

According to sources, three members of the gang escorted the victim to the motorcycle before speeding away.

In the early hours of this morning, the abductors contacted the boy’s family, demanding a ransom of N30 million for his release.

The operation bears similarities to a previous kidnapping that occurred on the same road.

On August 29, 2024, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers broke into the home of a landlord and father, abducting him from his master bedroom.

Neighbours revealed that the kidnappers had planned the attack, even poisoning the victim’s dog a day before their raid.

The August kidnapping, which took place between 10–11 p.m. during a rainstorm, saw the assailants boring a hole through the fence and entering the victim’s home unnoticed.

The noise from the man’s generator drowned out the sounds of the intruders, making it impossible for him to call for help.

Residents, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the tall crops on nearby vacant land had provided cover for the gunmen in both incidents.

The residents are now calling for heightened security measures to combat the rising threat of kidnappings in the region.
