Gunmen attack Anambra community, set secretariat ablaze

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have attacked the Ogbaru Local Government secretary in Anambra State.

The gunmen in their numbers were said to invaded the secretariat in the early hours of Friday, August 30, morning and set buildings, including a town hall used by traditional rulers and some administrative facilities at the premises on fire.

Sources in the community stated that this was the second time in two months such an attack had occurred.

The first attack, the source said took place on June 15, 2024.

While no casualty was recorded, the source also noted that the gunmen shot indiscriminately into the air leaving residents scampering for safety.

A source said, “Gunmen numbering about 30 who emerged from the bush at about 5 am, chanted songs as they stormed the local government secretariat, shooting into the air.

“They trekked from their hideouts and got to Atani Magistrate Court located near the council and started setting some buildings within the council ablaze, including the main secretariat and traditional rulers’ buildings,” the source said.
