Gunmen attack Anambra police station, kill two officers

A deadly attack occurred at the Umunze Police Station in Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State, on Monday when gunmen bombed the facility, killing two police officers.

The assailants reportedly stormed the station using improvised explosives and engaged in a continuous gun battle with officers. Despite efforts to resist, two policemen lost their lives in the tragic incident.

Confirming the attack, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that joint security forces, including the Nigerian Army, Navy, and other agencies, had recovered five unexploded improvised explosives at the scene.

Ikenga stated, “We are pursuing the armed secessionist group responsible for this heinous attack.” He assured the public that efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice were underway.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, visited the scene to assess the damage and reinforce security measures.

Ikenga urged citizens with relevant information to come forward, promising, “Any information shared will be treated with the highest confidentiality.”

This attack adds to the growing concern over security in the region as police and security agencies continue to tackle the rising threats posed by armed groups.
