Gunmen demand N20 million for release of abducted immigration officer

Gunmen have demanded N20 million as ransom for the release of Sunday Agbo, an immigration officer serving in Benue state.

Agbo was kidnapped by the gunmen from his residence in Makurdi, Benue’s capital city, at about 7.15 pm on Sunday.

The immigration personnel was outside his home with two of his neighbours when some gunmen suspected to be kidnappers invaded the area.

A family member who spoke on the incident said that the gunmen stormed the area located opposite the NKST Church Kuan behind Modern Market.

They fired sporadically into the air to scare residents away before abducting the immigration officer.

Youths and local security operatives have launched a search for the kidnappers and the officer who was just recently posted to Benue from Kwara State in February.

Agbo’s younger brother, while calling on security agencies to double their effort towards the rescue of his brother said a neighbour has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He said the neighbour, before the incident, persistently urged his brother to return home or share his location that particular evening when the gunmen attacked.

“He kept calling, insisting my brother come home or share his location. They were outside talking when the attackers struck, targeting only my brother,” he said.
