An Igbo businessman based in Kwara State has been abducted by some gunmen from his residence.
Emeka Nwachukwu was abducted on Wednesday, September 11, at his residence in Kosubosu, headquarters of Baruten LGA of the state.
Confirming the incident the Kwara Police Command said the Divisional Police Office has been in the bush with security operatives, members of the vigilante group and hunters on a rescue mission.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said, “Efforts are on to rescue him. The DPO in the area, vigilantes and hunters have been in the bush since yesterday.”
However, sources privy to the information said the gunmen stormed Nwachukwu’s residence close to the INEC office at about 8:30 pm and were shooting uncontrollably into the air.
The kidnapped victim who is also a teacher is a prominent businessman who runs a medicine store in the area.
According to the source, the gunmen had contacted Nwachukwu’s brother and demanded a ransom of N100 million for his release.
