Gunmen kill humanitarian worker in Benue

A humanitarian worker, Chris Terfa-Ikpu, has been killed by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Logo area of Makurdi, Benue State’s capital city.

Terfa-Ikpu, Executive Director of a non-governmental organisation known as Concerned Youth Development Initiative, was said to have been murdered by the gunmen who traced him to his office on Friday, August 9.

Sources who spoke on the incident said Terfa-Ikpu has been out of town for a while but returned during the week.

The victim was in his office when the gunmen forced themselves in and shot at the security guard on duty before going ahead to kill Terfa-Ikpu.

A source who pleaded anonymity said, “On arrival, the gunmen asked for Terfa’s whereabouts, but one of his workers led them to his office”

One of the sources who claimed to be close to the deceased and identified himself as Stanley Chimin, told journalists in Makurdi on Saturday that the victim had been away from the state for a while.

Also, family members were said to have rushed the victim to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Terfa-Ikpu’s body has since been deposited at the morgue of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
