Some unknown gunmen, on Saturday, shot a woman dead in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
The incident which occurred around 7am along NTA Road caused panic among residents of the area.
Eyewitnesses say the woman, whose identity is not yet ascertained, was killed by suspected armed robbers operating on motorcycle.
“The gunmen who were riding on motorcycle made attempt to forcefully dispossess the woman of her bag while standing by the road,” a source said on condition of anonymity.
“The woman was said to have resisted the attempt and refused to surrender the her bag and others valuables to them.
“She was shot by her assailants who fled the scene immediately”
Confirming the incident, the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu said the killing was more of a robbery incident.
He disclosed that the sum of forty thousand, two hundred and eighty naira (N40,280) was found in the bag of the deceased woman.
Abutu said her body has been deposited in the morgue adding that the police have launched manhunt for the killers.
