Gunmen have abducted female students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Makurdi, Benue State.
The students, reportedly numbering up to four, were kidnapped on Tuesday evening at the university’s North Core campus while heading for a “night class.”
The attackers stormed the hostel area of the campus before seizing the students.
Shortly after the incident, operatives of the Nigerian Army arrived at the school.
Benue Police spokesperson Sewuese Anene confirmed the abduction, stating that reports indicated two students were kidnapped. She added that an investigation has been launched.
The Makurdi attack adds to the growing list of student abductions in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
