Gunmen raid Nasarawa palace, abduct traditional ruler

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen on Wednesday abducted a traditional ruler in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The Sangarin Dari, Chief Emmanuel Omanji was said to have been abducted when the gunmen suspected to be bandits invaded his palace.

It was gathered that the invasion by the suspected bandits occurred in the early hours of the day.

The criminal, sources said, stormed the palace and started shooting sporadically into the air.

Scaring residents away with the gunshots, the gunmen whisked Omanji away to an unknown location.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Nasarawa State Police Command, Ranham Nansel, said Omanji was abducted by some criminals from his palace on Wednesday.

Nansel stated that the commissioner of police in the state, Shettima Jauro, has also ordered a rescue operation.

He said the CP has mobilised a combined security team involving police officers, military personnel, and local vigilantes.

Nansel said, “The CP has assured that the royal father will be rescued but called on anyone with useful information not to hesitate to report to the police.”
