The Akwa Ibom Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a naval rating and seven other individuals in the Ibaka Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday.
She stated that the victims were kidnapped on Monday while at the Classic Point Hotel in Ibaka, where they were relaxing.
ASP John reported that the Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, promptly led a team of police officers to the community following the briefing about the abduction.
“The Commissioner of Police has already led a team of security personnel to the community.
“I can assure you that with that visit by the Commissioner of Police and other strategic approaches being taken, normalcy will return,” she said.
John added that the abductors took the victims to an unknown destination.
Responding to the situation, the Base Information Officer, Sub.-Lt. Nasiru Omar stated that he had not yet received any official information regarding the abduction.
“I don’t know anything about it yet, you know how we do things if the incident is not official, I cannot say anything about it,” he said.
