A prominent women’s group in Kaduna Central Senatorial District has accused Lawal Adamu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator representing the area, of abandoning his legislative duties and failing to deliver any form of constituency engagement or development since assuming office in 2023.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Women Forum for Unity and Development of Kaduna Central expressed deep dissatisfaction with the senator’s alleged absenteeism, silence in the senate chamber, and lack of empowerment programmes for women, youths, and vulnerable groups.
Amina Suleiman, leader of the forum, said: “It is over two years now since we elected Senator Lawal Adamu, and we have never heard his voice on the floor of the senate.
“We have not seen any serious empowerment programme aimed at cushioning the effect of the current economic situation.”
The group said lawmakers in other parts of Kaduna and across the country have rolled out initiatives such as tricycle distribution, small business grants, skill acquisition centres, and educational scholarships.
They lamented that under Adamu’s leadership, Kaduna Central has seen no such efforts.
“We see other senators initiating meaningful projects. Sadly, our representative has failed to do any of this,” the group said.
They also criticised the senator’s frequent absence from the district, accusing him of spending extended periods abroad while neglecting his constituents.
“He is always in Saudi Arabia instead of sitting in the senate to raise issues concerning the progress and development of our constituency,” the statement read.
The forum further claimed that since assuming office, Senator Adamu has not visited any of the seven local government areas in the district.
“We didn’t elect him to serve as an aide to Senator Godswill Akpabio,” the group said.
During a recent review meeting held at Arewa House, the forum reportedly concluded that Lawal Adamu is “the worst-performing representative Kaduna Central has ever had.”
They warned that their patience was running thin, especially as economic conditions worsen following the removal of fuel subsidy.
The group called on the PDP to hold Adamu accountable and urged the senator to immediately reconnect with his constituents or prepare to face political consequences.
