Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has promoted members of the Olubadan in Council, who previously held the position of high chiefs, to the kings.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the grand ceremony took place at the illustrious Mapo Hall in Ibadan, drawing a gathering of distinguished dignitaries, including traditional rulers from neighbouring towns and states across the Southwest region.
The eleven high chiefs constituting the Olubadan advisory council now have the honour of adorning beaded crowns, symbolising their regal authority. Moreover, the paramount ruler of Ibadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, will henceforth be accorded the distinguished title of Royal Majesty.
Governor Makinde’s decision to grant beaded crowns and coronets to chiefs in the state was enabled by his recent signing of the Chieftaincy Amendment Bill into law, effectively securing the autonomy to carry out this historic transformation.
Among the notable Olubadan High Chiefs who have ascended to the revered status of kings are Balogun of Ibadanland, Owolabi Olakulehin; Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rasheed Ladoja; Otun Balogun, Tajudeen Ajibola; Osi Olubadan, Eddy Oyewole; Osi Balogun, Lateef Adebimpe; Ashipa Olubadan, Biodun Kola-Daisi; Ashipa Balogun, Kola Adegbola; Ekerin Olubadan, Hamidu Ajibade; Ekerin Balogun, Olubunmi Isioye; Ekarun Olubadan, Bayo Akande; and Ekarun Balogun, Abiodun Azeez.
