Suspected armed herdsmen have reportedly burnt down Abomste village in Benue State, North-Central Nigeria.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Abomste is the hometown of the Paramount ruler of Tyochin kingdom and Chairman of Gwer West Traditional Council, Chief Daniel Abomste.
The marauders were also reported to have sacked Sengev District, the home town of the lawmaker representing Gwer/Gwer West Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Mark Gbillah. They also razed houses and farmlands in several communities and districts in Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA).
Chief Abomste who raised the alarm on Wednesday lamented that the last one week had witnessed the influx of Fulani herdsmen into his domain, most likely from neighbouring Nasarawa State, forcing his subjects to flee their villages and homes while the lawbreakers engaged in burning down houses and properties of locals.
Chief Abomste expressed his disappointment with Nigerian security forces, saying “if the military cannot clampdown on these bandits who should be treated as terrorists, it is very unfortunate.”
Efforts by this newspaper to get comments from the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent (SP) Catherine Anene, was unsuccessful.
