Herdsmen operating in Ogun state have been given a deadline to register with the state’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
The registration process, the state government said should be done through the ministry’s Department of Veterinary Services on or before March 31, 2025.
Kehinde Jokotoye, the permanent secretary of the minister in a statement issued on Tuesday, March 18, said the process is being conducted in partnership with the Ogun chapter of the South West Commodity Farmers Organisation.
Jokotoye noted that having a database of herders in the state will help the Ogun government to strengthen its security, enhance livestock management and resolve conflicts.
“In addition, the state government has also observed that some private veterinary practitioners and veterinary pharmaceutical outfits are operating illegally in the state,” Jokotoye said.
