A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Segun Sowunmi has hailed the mental alertness of President Bola Tinubu.
Sowunmi’s commendation follows his recent meeting with the president at his residence in Lagos State.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sowunmi, an ally of former vice president Atiku Abubakar, said he is ready to work with Tinubu for the development of the nation.
According to him, during the meeting, he asked the president “some tough questions”, especially about happenings in the political ecosystem.
He added that he also asked President Tinubu questions about the state of the nation and how he plans to address the challenges faced by Nigeria and her people.
“It is not a bad time to have a conversation with the president. I decided to engage him since people talk about his frailty. So, I jumped on that investigation,” Sowunmi said.
Describing President Tinubu as a politician who is smarter than his peers, the PDP chieftain said Nigeria’s number one man is also physically fit.
“His brain is very alert, he is fit. You know when you are asking someone questions and he answers without looking at the book.
“The privilege to engage with the number one citizen in office, even when I’m not in his party and I critique him, makes him superior to the others,” he added.
In addition, Sowunmi stated that from his conversation with the president, he was able to figure out that Tinubu does not deal with all and sundry with the same approach.
Segun Sowunmi’s assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s mental alertness aligns with Tinubu’s own public statements asserting his physical and mental fitness to lead. Before and after assuming office, Tinubu has repeatedly declared himself fit, such as in May 2022 when he stated, “I am very healthy. Do I look sick?” and in October 2022, when he said, “I am strong, I am healthy, and I am READY to serve Nigerians.” However, not everyone agrees, with some critics questioning Tinubu’s health due to public appearances where he seemed frail or disoriented, including a former APC chieftain, Hajia Najaatu Mohammed, who described him as “physically unfit” and “mentally unfit.” Sowunmi’s conclusion about Tinubu’s fitness is based on their meeting, where he was impressed by the president’s responses, supporting Tinubu’s claims of being mentally alert and physically fit.
