The Kano State Hisbah Board has intercepted and confiscated 8,600 beer bottles from a van traveling from Kaduna to Kano.
The seizure took place at Kwanar Dangora village along the Kano-Kaduna Expressway last Thursday.
The Officer in Charge of intoxicants at the board, Idris Ibrahim, revealed that vigilant operatives had been tracking the vehicle from Kaduna until it entered Kano territory.
He said the driver attempted to evade authorities, but Hisbah operatives successfully apprehended him. Selling and consuming alcoholic beverages, including beer, is strictly prohibited in Kano State.
According to Ibrahim, the driver will face legal consequences in court.
Meanwhile, the Hisbah command conducted simultaneous operations, resulting in the arrest of 15 young women accused of engaging in prostitution.
The arrests were made in various locations, including Hotoro Tishama, Bakin River Verd Sabon Gari, Miyangu Road, Hadejia Road, and the old Zoo Road motor park.
The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, confirmed the arrests and expressed concern over the recurrence of such cases.
He said some of the apprehended women had faced legal action previously but continued engaging in the activity.
Dr. Aminuddeen urged the public to collaborate with authorities by reporting such activities, emphasizing the need to sanitize the state from objectionable behaviors.
He acknowledged that some of the women found themselves in difficult circumstances, pointing to hardships that lead them down this path.
Additionally, he highlighted the pervasive abuse of drugs among these individuals, affecting both their appearance and mental stability.
The board called on parents to pray for the protection of their children from the detrimental effects of drug abuse and other social vices.
