In a statement issued on Monday, Aminuddeen said the suspects were arrested after a dowry of N10,000 was paid for the bride.

Those arrested included the groom and the bride, along with three other individuals who served as representatives and a witness for both families.

According to Aminuddeen, the money also paid as dowry for the marriage proceedings was below the approved minimum threshold duly recognised in Islamic legal standards.

While appealing to parents and guardians to always remain aware of their wards’ engagement and social activities, Aminuddeen also assured the public that Hisbah has launched an investigation into the matter.

He also urged parents to guide their children in understanding the intricacies of marriage and its legal proceedings in accordance with Islamic rites.
