Twelve people have been confirmed dead in a fatal road crash in the Baimari–Geidam Road in Yobe.
Confirming the fatalities, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Yobe State, Livinus Yilzoom, in a statement said the accident occurred at about 10:00 pm on Tuesday, December 3.
According to Yilzoom, the accident occurred when a Howo truck ran into a bus with registration number BAU 124 YF near Chelluri village.
Yilzoom said 12 passengers in the bus were burnt to death as the vehicle burst into flames.
He said, “Preliminary investigation revealed road obstruction by the HOWO truck as the immediate cause, while excessive speed and overload by the driver of the bus (Sharan), as the remote causes of the road crash.”
The sector commander urged all motorists yet as much as they vam to avoid night journeys .
He also said that visibility is usually poor are night especially now that harmattan season has started.
