The House of Representatives is set to receive a collective sum of N54 billion for constituency projects.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that each member of the House will receive N150 million for constituency projects.
The constituency allowance is one of the few benefits that lawmakers receive to directly enhance the development of their respective constituencies.
In the previous ninth assembly, each member of the House of Representatives received N100 million, while Senators received N200 million for their respective constituency projects. However, the allocation for lawmakers’ constituency projects has increased by N50 million this year, to N150 million per member of the House of Representatives.
A lawmaker who spoke to The Punch on condition of anonymity confirmed the development. He said, “In the House of Reps, our constituency allowance is N150m. This is the only opportunity we have to help our constituencies with one or more projects.”
The lawmaker added that he did not know how much Senators would receive for their constituency projects this year.
