Joe Igbokwe, special adviser to Lagos state governor on drainage and water resources, has asked Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State to ‘lead southeast to get the criminals terrorising the zone out of the forest’.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that in the last couple of weeks, life has become hell for residents of the southeast region following upsurge of attacks, killings and kidnappings by gunmen.
The resurgence was after a recede in November and December last year, which raised hope of the people of the region that the nefarious activities of unknown gunmen had stopped.
But their hope was dashed recently, when the dreaded gunmen returned with fiercer attacks and killings. No part of the region is free of the attacks, leading to Governor Soludo, during his inauguration last Thursday, giving the lawbreakers an option of dialogue.
Many clashes had been recorded between the gunmen and security operatives who claimed the armed men were members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN) operatives. IPOB has, however, been denying any involvement in the killings in the region, and in turn, accuse security operatives of launching attacks to suppress their agitation for Biafra.
“Governor Soludo has started well. Anambra should lead southeast to get the criminals terrorising the zone out of the forest, and clear the Augean stable. Our people are dying and homes are burnt,” Igbokwe wrote on his known Facebook page on Monday.
