President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said he didn’t support any presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) because he didn’t want to hurt his lieutenant, Vice-President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that according to Buhari, in one of the crucial meetings in the build-up to the APC Special Convention in June, a governor of the ruling party wanted him to disclose his preferred aspirant, but he did not, because Osinbajo, also a presidential hopeful, was present.
Buhari revisited the APC presidential primary election exercise when he paid a Sallah visit to the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumin Usman Kabir, at his palace.
“I was given a list of thirty (30) aspirants to pick from. Most of them were my ministers and governors. So, who will I choose or support?” Buhari said in Hausa.
“One of the governors even came to see me and asked who are we to choose.
“If I do that, it would affect my Vice President because he was listening to our conversation. I then told them to choose who they want.
“So, they elected Bola Tinubu as APC presidential candidate.”
