How PDP ‘destroyed’ itself – Festus Keyamo

Festus Keyamo (SAN), the spokesperson of the All Progressives Council (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) on Thursday said the failure of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to throw open its 2023 presidential ticket to all sections of the country “destroyed” the party.

POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that the decision to throw open the ticket in May 2022 was in line with the recommendation made by the party’s zoning committee. Subsequently, Atiku Abubakar emerged as the PDP presidential flag-bearer, defeating the likes of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel in the presidential primary election.

Apart from the PDP’s choice of Atiku, Keyamo said the former Vice-President also has an “inordinate ambition”, which he said destroyed the party.

“It is now safe to say that the failure of PDP to respect the country’s zoning formula plus ATIKU’S inordinate ambition, destroyed PDP. Simple,” Keyamo wrote on his verified Twitter handle.

This newspaper reports that the incumbent Nigerian leader, Muhammadu Buhari, is a Northerner, thus it was expected in some quarters that the PDP would adhere to the power shift policy by zoning its presidential ticket to the South.
