The government of Katsina State has relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed on Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 5, the director of media for the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Aliyu-Yaradua, said the acting governor, Faruq Jobe, ordered the relaxation of the curfew.
According to Aliyu-Yaradua, the governor’s decision followed a review of the report on the improved security situation in Dutsinma LGA.
He said the curfew has now been reviewed from 7 pm to 7 am.
The Katsina government had imposed a 24-hour curfew in Dutsinma and other 34 LGAs of the state after the nationwide protest turned violent on Thursday, August 1.
Chairing the State’s Security Council meeting, the acting governor ordered a ban on unusual gatherings and protests across the state.
He also commended security agencies in the state for their professional conduct in handling the violence while appreciating parents, guardians and community leaders for rising to the occasion throughout the period.
He added, “The state security council also announced the arrest of several youths in connection with the recent violence, looting and destruction of public and private property.”
