BREAKING: APM Withdraws Appeal at Supreme Court Challenging Tinubu’s Election Victory

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has withdrawn its appeal at the Supreme Court, challenging the election of President Bola Tinubu.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the appeal was withdrawn by APM counsel Chukwuma Umeh on Monday.

The seven-member panel of the apex court is led by Justice John Okoro.

Other members of the panel are Justices Uwani Abba-Aji, Mohammed Lawal Garba, Adamu Jauro, Ibrahim Saulawa, Tijani Abubakar and Emmanuel Agim.

The APM’s petition was primarily based on the argument that Tinubu contested the presidential election without a lawful running mate.

The party also argued that the withdrawal of Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Tinubu’s original running mate, and the expiry of the deadline for changing or withdrawing candidates made Tinubu’s election invalid.

However, during the discussion of the appeal, the panel members said that it seemed frivolous, citing a prior Supreme Court ruling in the case of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) v. INEC and others, which had already addressed the issue of Shettima’s proper nomination.

Justice Okoro asked Umeh about the potential benefits his client could gain from pursuing the case, apart from adding to the court’s workload.

Initially, Umeh highlighted the distinctions between his client’s case and the PDP v. INEC and others case. But, he eventually changed his stance when Justice Okoro insisted that the appeal seemed to lack any practical value.
