Hushpuppi: We’ll continue to call out fraudsters denting our image – Dabiri-Erewa

The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said that the federal government will continue to call out fraudster denting the image of the country.

Dabiri-Erewa is reacting to how the Dubai Police Force in the United Arab Emirates arrested an Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abass aka Hushpuppi, for fraud and online scam.

The Dubai Police disclosed that they arrested Hushpuppi alongside Olalekan Ponle, aka Woodberry, and 11 other members of his gang over fraud amounting to 1.6 billion dirham (N168bn).

In a series of tweets on Thursday via her Twitter handle, the NIDCOM boss said criminal acts such as fraud and money laundering do not define the Nigerian people.

She also condemned Hushpuppi for committing crimes and still flaunting alleged his ill-gotten wealth on social media.

The NIDCOM boss added that the crimes perpetrated by Hushpuppi and his gang dented the image of Nigeria, stressing that the law should take its course.

She tweeted: “Committing a crime and still having the audacity to show off. Ramoni Igbalode aka Hushpuppi. This is really denting to our image as a people, but like I always say, fraud does not represent who we are as Nigerians. Hardworking. dedicated, committed.

“Whether your name is Ramoni Igbalode or Invictus Obi, crime is crime. The law must take its course. To those countries, another Nigerian has committed a crime. While we will call out those who soil our image, we will always celebrate the millions of Nigerians making us proud.”
