“I am learning how to speak Yoruba fluently” – Lagos Labour Party guber candidate, Gbadebo

Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos state, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has said he schooled abroad for long, hence his inability to speak Yoruba fluently.

Rhodes-Vivour said this during an interview with Arise TV on Sunday, monitored by POLITICS NIGERIA.

He stated that though he understands Yoruba, he has hired a language teacher to help him get better.

“My intonation is something that makes people laugh at me,” he said.

“I understand Yoruba very well. It didn’t help that I schooled abroad for so long. But I’m learning.

“It will get to a point that I will give a fluent speech in Yoruba.

“I have my teacher. It is important because because there is so much richness in Yoruba language.”

This newspaper reports that with the governorship elections slated for Saturday, March 18, 2023, there is ethnic tension in many states where the elections have become too close to call.

Lagos State is the economic jewel of the nation and one where Saturday’s election will be a battle given the emergent youth revolt and other sentiments which helped the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to a historic victory over former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
