The Commissioner of Police in Rivers state, Mustapha Mohammed, has been accused of refusing to take directives from Governor Siminalayi Fubara but acceding to the request of former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
This revelation was made by Anabs Sara-Igbe, a member of the Rivers Elders Forum, who described the situation as deeply concerning.
Speaking on the recent unrest following the local government elections in the state, Sara-Igbe lamented the ongoing power struggle, declaring that there can’t be two governors in a state.
He warned that such interference poses a serious threat to governance and stability in Rivers State.
“The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State is supposed to take orders from the sitting governor, Governor Fubara, but we are seeing something different.
“They are instead taking directives from outside the government, particularly from Nyesom Wike. But despite all of this, the governor has remained calm and unprovoked. The situation in Rivers is uncalled for, and there can’t be two governors in a state,” he said.
Sara-Igbe called for calm and caution, but stated that the interest of the people of Rivers State must come first.
“We want peace and stability in Rivers State, but that can only happen if the right thing is done. The Commissioner of Police must respect the office of the governor, and there must be an end to this outside interference,” Sara-Igbe concluded.
