The immediate past Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha has denied a statement credited to Governor Hope Uzodinma that he asked him to dissolve investigative panels set up the administration of Emeka Ihedioha to probe him.
In a statement on Sunday issued by his media office, governor Uzodinma said the Senator is angry with him because he ignored his request to stop the panel probing his administration. The governor said Okorocha made the request to make way for his 2023 presidential ambition.
But in a swift response, Okorocha, in a statement by his media aide, Jones Onwuasanaya, said he only requested a fair hearing from an impartial panel.
The Senator added that he made the request as he could not get justice from the current panel reportedly dominated by Peoples Democratic Party members.
He also noted that his request is not connected with his ambition to run for the presidency in 2023 as claimed by the governor.
The statement read, “Owelle utilised his mandate judiciously and kept to his covenant with God and man, in his eight years as the governor of Imo State
“What Okorocha has always requested, for which he has gone to court is that impartial panels should be constituted to probe his stewardship and not the present situation, where key stakeholders of the opposition People’s Democratic Party constitute 95 percent of the membership of the panels probing him.”
