A retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, Esther Marcus, has lamented over the “poor” retirement plan for Nigerian police officers.
In a viral video post shared on various social media platforms, Marcus said she joined the Police Force at the age of 16 and retired in 2018 after 35 years of service.
Speaking further, she stated that after retirement she received a total of N1.7 million as gratuity.
“I joined the Nigerian police force when I was 16. After 35 years of service, I was paid N1.7Million as gratuity,” Marcus said.
“This dirty contributory pension scheme affects every other police officer. After serving for 35 years, I waited for a year, then I was given N1.7 million as gratuity. Imagine receiving just N40,000 monthly to live on,” she lamented.
