Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the Lead Counsel to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Tuesday dismissed rumours that he has withdrawn his case against diaspora-based Biafra separatist, Simon Ekpa.
POLITICS NIGERIA reported last Tuesday that Ejiofor commenced legal action against Ekpa.
Ekpa has been accused of masterminding the horror ongoing in Nigeria’s southeast region after he declared a five-day sit-at-home from his base abroad.
The former Nigerian athlete said the sit-at-home commenced on December 9.
Ekpa, who used to proclaim himself a disciple of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, had been criticising Ejiofor, accusing the lawyer of working against the actualisation of a Biafra Republic.
In a statement he signed and posted across his verified social media pages this morning, Ejiofor said it “is merely a wishful thinking on the part of those pushing the narrative” that he has abandoned the suit against Ekpa.
“Our visit today (Monday) to our indefatigable Client, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was led by our erudite Lead Counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN.
“The legal Iroko spent quality and ample time with Onyendu, which afforded him the opportunity to brief Onyendu on the status of our appeal before the Supreme Court and further steps being taken to ensure his unconditional release. However, the time allotted for the visit elapsed before the conclusion of same.
“A more detailed update will be given after our next visit on Thursday.
“May I use this opportunity to state categorically, that I have not withdrawn and/or discontinued my earlier suit, and I have no intention of doing so. Any such insinuation is merely a wishful thinking on the part of those pushing that narrative.
“We urge you Ezigbo UmuChineke, never to relent in your prayers and intercessions for Onyendu, until his release, which is inevitable and sacrosanct.
“Thank you all Ezigbo UmuChineke, and remain blessed. We move!” Ejiofor’s statement reads.
