Valentine Ozigbo, a former member of the Labour Party and a 2025 governorship aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded Anambra party primaries has said that he has no regret joining the APC.
Speaking on Arise Television on Friday, April 25, Ozigbo said politicians have different reasons for defecting from one party to the other.
According to Ozigbo, some politicians dump their parties for other parties due to lack of internal policies or mechanisms to resolving members’ issues.
He said, “I have no regrets whatsoever, there are reasons for some of these movements that you see, some of them are genuine considerations, either because of lack of internal party mechanisms to resolve issues fairly and equitably, that may actually put somebody out and some others may find some reasons – some nobly, some not so noble in what they are seeking in the party they are seeking to move into.”
The former governorship aspirant said while in the Labour Party, he exhausted all options available for the challenge he faced to be addressed but to no avail.
He said, “In my case, I made mine very clear; I detailed them, I engaged, I escalated, the exhausted all the options and When I saw that that was not being dealt with, then I opened up conversations, if not Labour Party, then where else. So I put all the parties on the table and did my introspection.”
Ozigbo said that for him, there seems to be only two major options – either you are in the mainstream party and figure ways to make a change you so desire or become part of the opposition.
He said, “I see a very dysfunctional opposition, I would love to see a more credible stronger opposition in Nigeria because opposition politics help to strengthen democracy but what we are seeing today is not giving hope or confidence.
“So for people with good conscience, like me, I ask since we are only left with APC, what can we do to make APC a better place so that governance and even be better entrenched.”
He also admitted that people are already calling to confirm the same thing he had seen and stated that he is in APC for noble reasons and has no regrets.
