Nasir El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State has alleged that some ministers in the President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet paid for their current positions.
Speaking during an interview on BBC Hausa Service, El-Rufai explained in details, some of the reasons he dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The governor said, had the APC sacked him from the party, he would have appreciated that rather than been trapped in a position of having to explain why he left the party at every point.
“It could have been easier for me if APC sacked me because they will save me from explaining the stress of why I left the party,” El-Rufai stated.
He further stated that, while he did not just leave the party, he was pushed away by the fact that, the APC abandoned its original mandate and ideals to focus on individual gains.
Also reacting to claim that people believed he left the APC because the present day government did not compensate his efforts within the party leadership, especially during the presidential campaign period with a ministerial appointment, El-Rufai replied in the negative.
He said, “Did I seek to be minister? I know people who paid to get ministerial appointments.
“The APC abandoned the ideals that led to its formation. It has abandoned the people. Everyone is now pursuing personal interests and wealth. The government has become a business enterprise where everything has a price,” the former governor added.
