Former governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame said his last prayers when terrorists attacked the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja in July.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Nyame made this known during in an interview with Punch, published on Sunday.
Recall that on July 5, Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists invaded the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje. The outlaws freed 879 inmates; among them 64 Boko Haram members and other criminals.
At the time, Nyame and a former governor of Plateau State, Senator Joshua Dariye, were in the facility.
Both were released from the Kuje Custodial Centre on August 8, 2022, following a pardon by the Council of State, led by President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I had only heard the sound of an AK-47 and a small pistol in my life until that day,” Nyame said.
“On that day, the gunshots I heard were terrible. To be honest with you, I had to say my last prayers that day, because the sound and what we were passing through emotionally made me so scared.
“I couldn’t believe I would be alive to see the following morning; so, I had to say my last prayers, but God in His infinite mercy saw me and others through that life-threatening experience.”
