Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed has publicly ruled out any plan to leave the Labour Party, making it clear that he will not move alongside Peter Obi to a new political platform.

His position puts to rest growing speculation around his next political steps ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Baba-Ahmed said his loyalty remains with the Labour Party, the platform that produced him as vice presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

He stressed that his political future is tied to the party and not to shifting alliances.

Baba-Ahmed, who was Peter Obi’s running mate in the last presidential race, said he has no intention of following Obi after the former Anambra State governor exited the Labour Party.

Obi recently aligned with the African Democratic Congress, a party now being promoted by a coalition seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Addressing journalists at the Labour Party national headquarters, the former Kaduna North senator stated clearly that he would not walk the same path. He said his decision was based on personal conviction and long-term political goals.

Explaining his stance, Baba-Ahmed said he is not persuaded by the ADC project. He described those driving the coalition as “disgruntled politicians.”

According to him, the platform does not represent the kind of political direction Nigeria urgently needs.

He also used the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to national service. Baba-Ahmed said he remains ready to contribute to fixing Nigeria and would make himself available to serve the country ahead of the 2027 polls.

While acknowledging his past partnership with Obi, he maintained that political decisions must be guided by principle, not personal ties. He insisted that his focus is on strengthening the Labour Party and positioning it as a credible alternative for Nigerians.

Recall, Politics Nigeria previously reported Peter Obi’s exit from the Labour Party and his adoption of the ADC as part of a broader opposition coalition targeting the APC ahead of the next general election.
