“If you ask Nigerians to rate ministers, Wike will top the chart” – Group hails FCT minister

A civil society group, the Centre for Transparency and Accountability (CTA), has lauded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for his exemplary performance in transforming Abuja since assuming office.

According to the group, Wike’s leadership has led to noticeable improvements in infrastructure and security, making him one of the most effective ministers in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking in Abuja, the CTA’s president, Moses Adam, emphasized Wike’s commitment to delivering results within his first year as FCT Minister.

Adam noted that the Minister’s hard work, particularly in road construction, infrastructural development, and enhanced security, has garnered widespread recognition from Nigerians.

“If you ask Nigerians to rate ministers based on their performances, Wike will top the chart. In just over a year, changes are noticeable even to the blind,” Adam stated.

The group praised Wike’s focus on underserved areas, including satellite towns and rural communities, which have historically been neglected.

The CTA brought to the fore his success in completing numerous road projects, developing new parks, and relocating business premises, along with his role in restarting Abuja’s light rail services.

These efforts, the group said, have brought a fresh sense of hope to residents of the FCT.

“In most districts of the FCT, Wike has caused a revolution in road construction and rehabilitation.

“The work he is doing is commendable. We are proud of him and thank Mr. President for the confidence he has in the Minister,” the group said.

In addition to infrastructure, Wike’s efforts to improve security in the FCT were also praised.

The CTA credited Wike’s logistical support to security agencies, including night patrol initiatives, for reducing crime in the nation’s capital.

“The massive logistic support given to the security agencies is yielding dividends. The night patrol by Policemen has reduced criminality in the FCT,” Adam added.

The group also commended President Tinubu for his decision to appoint Wike, despite the former Rivers State Governor being from an opposition party.

Adam noted that Tinubu’s move to prioritize competence over political affiliation was paying off for Nigeria.

“It is not common for a President to pick a Minister outside the fold of his party, but Asiwaju Tinubu did it. Today, Nigeria is good for it, and we are happy,” he said.

The CTA also extended its appreciation to the National Assembly for working in harmony with the executive branch, particularly in the swift passage of the 2024 statutory and supplementary budgets for the FCT.

The group credited the lawmakers for enabling the government to carry out its development agenda efficiently.

“Without the support of the 10th National Assembly, we wouldn’t be here celebrating successes. We thank our lawmakers in both chambers for having the masses in their thoughts.

“We urge them to continue working together with the executive in the interest of our nation,” Adam concluded.
