A group known as Igbo Lawyers Association, ILA has mobilised lawyers across the world to mount a defence for IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, whose case comes up in court on July 26th.
Kanu, who jumped bail in 2017 was re-arrested in June 2021 and arraigned in court where he was remanded in DSS custody until July 26th. POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that Kanu was captured in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria under shady circumstances.
His lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor claims that Kanu was tortured and beaten in Kenya before being handed over to Nigerian authorities in an ‘unconscious’ state. However, chairman of ILA, Chief Chuks Muomah, SAN, while briefing journalists in Aba, condemned the illegal manner in which Kanu was intercepted and brought to Nigeria.
“We are doing this because we want the British government to ensure the reversal of the illegality of that interception.”
“We are also giving notice that Igbo Lawyers Association is mobilising lawyers from across the globe to put up the best defence available under municipal and international law in defence of the rights of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu”, he disclosed.
