Reno Omokri, a former media assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has raised his voice against the protracted closure of the Seme border by the Muhammadu Buhari government, saying “the real reason” for the shutdown was to pressure the Beninese government to hand over Nigerian separatist leader, Sunday Adeyemo ‘Igboho’.
Omokri argued that though the Federal Government had said the closure was to curb smuggling of goods and weapons, to tackle the menace of banditry, the reasons were far from the truth.
“Buhari claims he closed the Benin Republic-Nigeria border because of banditry. That is a lie from the mouth of Lai Mohammed. The real reason behind the closure is to pressure the Beninese government to hand over Igboho to him,” Omokri wrote on his known Twitter handle on Thursday morning.
Igboho – the Yoruba nation promoter — escaped being arrested by security operatives from his Ibadan home in Oyo State before he fled to the Republic of Benin, where is being detained.
