“I’m not in the race” – Again, Akume denies interest in APC national chairmanship

George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has dismissed reports linking him to the race for the national chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Yomi Odunuga, Akume described the speculation as false and distracting.

His words: “The attention of Senator George Akume has been drawn to a publication claiming he is among those jostling for the APC national chairmanship.

“To the best of our knowledge, this is a fabrication meant to distract the SGF from his critical duties in the federal government.”

Akume, a former governor of Benue and ex-senate minority leader, said his priority remains supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration to deliver on its Renewed Hope Agenda.

“His main focus, he insists, is to ensure he does not in any way betray the trust that President Tinubu reposes in him,” Odunuga said.

Speaking directly on the matter, Akume said he is not seeking any internal party position.

“I am not in a race that I am not interested in,” he said.

He acknowledged that while the APC may zone the chairmanship to the north-central, other competent individuals in the region could fill the role.

“I am a firm believer in the principle that whatever God plans for you will surely come to pass.

“Everything I have been in life has been given to me by God through the instrumentality of people, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
