Former Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State, Muiz Banire, has publicly denied any involvement in a committee that allegedly demanded the resignation of Mojisola Meranda, the current Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The move is reportedly aimed at paving the way for the return of Mudashiru Obasa, who was impeached as Speaker in January.
Banire, a former national legal adviser of the All Progressives Congress, took to social media to clarify his position, stating that he was not aware of such a committee and had not participated in any decision related to Meranda’s resignation or Obasa’s potential return.
His words: “My attention has just been drawn to a news item circulating in the social media mentioning my name as part of a phantom committee that demanded the resignation of the speaker of Lagos state House of Assembly to pave way for the return of the embattled speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
“I unequivocally state I am not aware of such committee and never participated in any such obnoxious decision. This is for the record and future reference.”
Recent reports have suggested that key figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande and former Osun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, have been involved in mediating the crisis within the Assembly.
However, Banire’s statement contradicts claims that he was part of these discussions.
