Imo govt calls for arrest of Ikenga Ugochinyere

The Imo State Government has called for the arrest and questioning of Ikenga Ugochinyere, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate in respect of the 2023 election for Ideato North and Ideato South Federal Constituency.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Ugochinyere through a group where he is the Spokesperson, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), had raised an alarm over alleged plots to compromise the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters register.

To back his claims, Ugochinyere presented a copy of a suit he filed at the Owerri Federal High Court on 24 August and copies of voter registers with questionable names.

He also questioned the usage of passport photographs of long-dead persons, names, gender, and age of thousands of registered voters on copies of the register.

But reacting via a media conference on Friday, the Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, asked the relevant security agencies to “immediately arrest the said Ugochinyere to find out from him how he obtained the voters register he has been parading before the public even when the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC is still at the stage of Automated Biometric Verification of Systems, which must be concluded before an official voters register can be released to the public.”

Emelumba used the briefing to call on Ugochinyere who is a lawyer and known politician to “stop hiding under CUPP and using the body as a front and come out openly as PDP candidate to campaign for himself and his master.”
