The former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has donated his campaign secretariat office to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Monday Okpebholo/Hon Dennis Idahosa Campaign Organization.
The office, located along Airport Road in Benin City, served as the headquarters of Shaibu’s gubernatorial campaign until his impeachment in April.
The donation includes several Sienna vehicles, utility trucks, and the collapse of Shaibu’s campaign structure into the APC.
This development comes after Shaibu received members of the APC Campaign Council, led by Director General Senator Matthew Urhoghide, at his campaign office.
The secretariat has also been rebranded, with all traces of Shaibu’s pictures and the PDP logo removed and replaced with APC and Okpebholo/Idahosa branding.
There are rumours that Shaibu is on his return to the APC, following his impeachment and the emergence of Asue Ighodalo as the PDP candidate for the Edo gubernatorial election.
Shaibu and other aggrieved former PDP governorship aspirants and members of the Chief Dan Orbih-led Legacy PDP Group had vowed not to support Ighodalo in the upcoming September 21, 2024 election.
Recall that Shaibu was impeached following the adoption of the report of a seven-man committee set up by the chief judge of Edo State Justice Daniel Okungbowa to investigate allegations of misconduct against the deputy governor.
During a plenary at the state house of assembly in April, the Majority Leader of the House Charity Aiguobarueghian said the report of the seven-man judicial panel of inquiry presented to the House had two findings and one recommendation.
Aiguobarueghian said that while the report of the panel was unable to establish the case of perjury levelled against the deputy governor, the panel found him guilty of disclosure of government secrets.
Eighteen out of 19 members present at plenary voted for the impeachment of the deputy governor while one abstained from the voting process.
