Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, reportedly arrived in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Sunday evening.
According to sources, Obasa flew into Abuja under the cover of darkness, without his usual entourage of aides and security operatives.
Obasa’s arrival in Abuja comes reportedly after a failed attempt to meet with President Bola Tinubu in the United Arab Emirates.
Before his trip to the UAE, Obasa had travelled to Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States, with some loyal lawmakers and the former Clerk of the House, Mr Olalekan Onafeko, who was also removed alongside Obasa.
The reports also alleged that Obasa left his loyalists stranded at various locations around the world while travelling around, fighting for his own survival and seeking a soft landing.
It would be recalled that Obasa was impeached on Monday, January 13, by 32 lawmakers out of 40, as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. A new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda was immediately elected to replace him.
Obasa’s impeachment was linked to his alleged financial dealings and his rumoured gubernatorial ambition in 2027.
