Lere Olayinka, the spokesperson of Bisi Kolawole’s Governorship Campaign, on Tuesday slammed the Muhammadu Buhari administration for ‘not doing anything’ about the Director of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Professor Ishaq Akintola, whom he accused of orchestrating “impending terrorism”.
MURIC is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which describes itself as “peace-loving, law-abiding and dialogue-prone”.
Olayinka, a public affairs analyst and one-time Southwest Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose’s spokesperson, was seemingly reacting to a press release on Monday by MURIC where the Islamic human rights organization listed eight Yoruba Muslims ‘fit’ for presidency.
In the statement, MURIC argued that no Yoruba Muslim has ever occupied Aso Rock either as a president or vice president since independence in 1960, whereas three Yoruba Christians have enjoyed that luxury.
The statement titled, ‘2023: On Yoruba Muslim presidential candidate we stand’, was signed by its founder, Prof. Akintola.
Among those mentioned by MURIC are the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu; ex-APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire; Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede; and Lagos Deputy governor, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat.
Responding to MURIC’s statement via his verified Facebook page, Olayinka insinuated that Akintola, a lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU), pose a danger to Nigeria and Nigerians.
“Sebi [sic] Buhari and his men are looking at this man and enjoying his impending terrorism abi???? [sic]
“Southwest is one region where Christians, Muslims and traditional religions worshippers live together peacefully.
“If this Prof Ishaq Akintola is not checked enh…” he wrote with an accompanying picture of Prof. Akintola.
General elections will be held in Nigeria on 18 February 2023 to elect the President, Vice President, House of Representatives, and Senate. The winners of the election will be inaugurated on 29 May 2023, the former date of Democracy Day.
I think this MURIC is worster than BOKO HARAM b/c all his thought is how to make religion differences to tear them apart and cause trouble in the country. Is like the man is agent of terror but disguise himself under religion to carry out his atrocity
Akintola Isiaq or whatever he is named is a potential terrorist who portends danger to the rest of the peace-loving inhabitants of Southwest Nigeria. I think he is doing the bid for those in the government they allowed him thus far. He is inflicting grievous damage to the unity of this nation than any of those the government are running after.
